Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the chairperson of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), has emphasized the importance of the politics of reconciliation, urging the opposition to take on a 'responsible' role. In a recent statement, Bilawal called for both the ruling party and its allies to take necessary steps towards this goal, while also addressing the need for political parties to resolve issues through political means. He highlighted the significance of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's message of 'truth and reconciliation' and 'reconciliation in politics', linking it to the country's progress and economic prosperity. Bilawal also addressed the opposition's role, stating that if they engage in extremist politics, the state will respond accordingly. He advised the opposition to let go of the 'politics of extremism' for the benefit of the country's politics. Furthermore, Bilawal acknowledged the 'unique dynamic' in the current circumstances, emphasizing the importance of opposition parties in reducing political division and polarization. He called for the creation of an environment conducive to political reconciliation, warning that failure to do so would result in loss for the people and the country. In response to a question about Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman's demand for fresh elections, Bilawal emphasized the need for all political parties to play their role in ensuring free and fair elections. He also stressed the importance of increasing people's trust in the Election Commission and bringing electoral reforms to prevent allegations of rigging. Bilawal's statement highlights the need for political parties to find political means to resolve issues, asserting that long-term solutions to economic difficulties and national security questions lie in genuine political stability and the lasting innings of one political party.
