Predators 2-1 Panthers (Dec 4, 2025) Game Recap – ESPN
SUNRISE, Fla. — Steven Stamkos sealed the overtime victory with 57 seconds remaining, lifting the Nashville Predators to a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. Stamkos finished the night with a dramatic OT tally that sparked celebration in Nashville, marking the Predators’ fourth triumph in five contests. Notably, it was his 53rd career goal against Florida (including playoffs), the most he’s ever scored against a single opponent.
Carter Verhaeghe, who had welcomed a newborn son just two days earlier, tallied for the Panthers, and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 27 shots in total. Florida, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions, dropped their fourth straight game and their fifth in a row at home.
Verhaeghe’s absence was brief for Tuesday’s defeat to Toronto due to his wife’s delivery, but he returned in time for Thursday’s morning skate and the game.
Ryan O’Reilly tied the score for Nashville with 6:19 left in the third period, setting the stage for Stamkos’ late heroics on the rush in overtime.
Jusse Saros turned aside 30 shots to help secure the win for Nashville.
In a moment of restraint and skill, Stamkos’ OT winner came despite the net appearing to be off its moorings, a call that stood after a brief review.
Verhaeghe reflected on fatherhood versus the pressure of championship success, saying, “Not even close. This one, it’s the best feeling in the world. It doesn’t even come close to anything. It’s the greatest thing in the world.”
Bobrovsky received a helping hand in the second period when a goal by Stamkos from the circle to the right of the Panthers’ net was negated by defenseman Niko Mikkola as his stick nudged the puck away at the goal line.
